The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) announced that a record number of 140 buildings were certified last year, illustrating the growing momentum for green buildings in the commercial property sector. The announcement was made during the GBCSA’s Green Building Convention held recently in Cape Town.

Property owners, tenants and investors are now insisting on better certified green buildings, as the environmental and financial benefits of these become indisputable. To date, the GBCSA has certified 740 buildings since 2009, according to GBCSA CEO Lisa Reynolds.

The winner in the category of Highest Rated Building was The Ridge in Cape Town and the runner up was Balwin Head Office in Johannesburg.

The GBCSA works with its membership community to inspire a built environment in which people and planet thrive.
