Mary Vincent, SALI Cape operations director for 26 years, passed away recently at the age of 76. She retired in 2019 and her contribution to the green industry was honoured at the SAGIC Convention held at Arabella, Kleinmond, in June of that year. Also at this convention, Mary was awarded the National Judges Discretionary Award, which recognises individuals who have excelled themselves and made significant contributions to the landscaping industry. This well-deserved award paid tribute to her unwavering loyalty, dedicated service and commitment to SALI. As the organiser of all SALI activities in the Western and Eastern Cape, Mary made it her mission to galvanise SALI members and bring them to order, despite tough circumstances and difficult times. She was also instrumental in organising that the SALI national judge briefed regional judges in the Cape before the Awards of Excellence got underway. This practice has now become the norm for the annual awards process. Mary was a delightfully warm, friendly and enthusiastic person, much loved and highly respected by everyone. She leaves three daughters, two sons and two grandchildren, and heartfelt condolences are extended to them. Rest in peace, Mary.
