The sale of SANA’s Knoppieslaagte offices and surrounding property in Midrand was concluded on 19 March 2021, sadly marking the end of an era.

Over the past 30 years, the grounds were used for industry trade shows, and the administration offices were shared by SALI, the South African Landscapers Institute. Both organisations also used the premises to hold training sessions for their respective members. Going forward, SANA will look for alternative office premises but is not envisaging new grounds to hold trade shows. These and other events will be held at suitable sports or park-type venues.

Paul Vonk, SANA president, says although there is no official record of the purchase price in 1994, this is estimated at around R400 000, and the property has now been sold for R3, 35 million, some 27 years later. The funds will be transferred to a 32 day call account to earn interest while a committee is being set up to discuss proposals on how to best utilise them.

It is estimated that between

50 000 – 100 000 people - members and visitors - walked the grounds over the years.
