ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION CHALLENGES
Updated: Apr 15
To tackle environmental conservation issues in Africa, conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall joined leading African scientists for a discussion on how to manage, protect and restore Africa’s ecosystems. The event was hosted by Oppenheimer Generations Research and Conservation, in association with Future Ecosystems for Africa based at Wits University.
The panel discussion profiled the importance of managing land for ecological goals while using it for the benefit of people, and focused on nature-based solutions, restoration and biodiversity protection in Africa. A question and answer session followed the panel discussion.
The event, introduced by businessman and conservationist Nicky Oppenheimer, aimed to ignite dialogue on how to manage and use ecosystems to promote human well-being and biodiversity in ways which encompass the wildlife economy and different agricultural production systems.
Dr Goodall used her visit to South Africa to promote her institute’s ‘Roots & Shoots’ international youth programme, which supports young people in more than 65 countries to create positive change in their communities.
