Safari lodges in South Africa are leading the transition to solar energy to meet growing global demand for greener travel experiences and a secure energy supply.
To align with environmentally responsible tourism goals, Ngwenya Lodge on the border of the Kruger National Park recently transitioned to solar power, with the following benefits:
*energy security and independence;
*energy cost savings and long-term value;
*silent, emission free operations; and
*enhanced sustainability credentials.
The lodge partnered with Candi Solar, a Swiss solar power developer, to install a hybrid solar and battery energy storage system. By integrating these two aspects, they have eliminated reliance on Eskom and unstable grid power, and cut their diesel usage drastically. The lodge now enjoys uninterrupted operations, a critical factor in remote locations. The transition to solar has also reduced carbon emissions, strengthened its position as a leader in sustainable tourism and enhanced a tranquil bush experience for guests with its silent operations.
Richard Flamand of Candi Solar South Africa says that the future of environmentally responsible tourism is powered by the sun.
