PRETORIA NAMED WORLD’S MOST AFFORDABLE CAPITAL

Pretoria has been named the most affordable capital city in the world, according to research done by US financial services firm NetCredit, who analysed more than 800 000 property listings for 73 global capitals. They calculated the median price for each and used the average monthly net salary for each city to calculate affordability.

It is also one of the most accessible South African cities for buyers across all price bands because it offers a wide selection of property types, including estates and security complexes. It also has desirable lifestyle options, excellent medical facilities, schools and universities.

According to Property 24, people in the 18-35 age group account for nearly a third of all home buyers in Pretoria. The 36 – 49 age group accounts for just over 38% of home buyers in the past year, suggesting that the city is also popular with families wanting to be close to schools and educational opportunities.

To many people, Pretoria appeals because it offers a slower pace of living compared to Johannesburg, while still providing plenty in the way of arts and culture, leisure and entertainment.
