STIHL SETS UP NEW PRODUCTION SITE IN ROMANIA
Updated: Aug 2, 2022
The Stihl group is to expand its international manufacturing network by investing in a new production site in Romania for electric and battery-operated products. This will enable the company to increase its production capacities and strengthen the resilience of its supply chains. Battery-powered products currently represent the fastest growing market for Stihl, according to Martin Schwarz, Stihl executive board member for manufacturing and materials.
Demand for these products is expected to continue rising faster than any other category and the Tirol plant, which currently manufactures a large portion of Stihl’s battery-powered range, will one day reach its space and capacity limits. The new location in Romania will add to Stihl’s global manufacturing network, enabling them to continue supplying their customers with battery-operated products in the future. The newly formed production company, Andreas Stihl Power Tools SRL, will begin operating in mid-2024, creating some 500 new jobs for the group in the long term.
The new plant will be a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility designed according to the principles of lean production and a high degree of digitilisation. The new building will also take into account the company’s climate targets and carbon footprint by ensuring a sustainable design and energy efficient production.
